Fat Soldiers

What’s the deal with so many fat Soldiers? It Seems that year after year they just keep getting fatter and fatter, damn there is no excuse for wearing some tight ass ACUs unless the Soldier has some kind of known medical condition which prevents him/her from losing the chunks. The bottom line is that these NCOs need to do their job and get these porkers in line by implementing a rigorous Physical Training program and sticking with it. Have you ever seen a fat Marine? I haven’t yet and I been in service for 6 years, now I can’t say that my Soldiers are chiseled, body building, PT studs but they can at least pass their APFT and meet the height and weight standards set by the Army. During the time that I have been in service I have seen too many fat Soldiers ride the system, getting profile after profile followed by appointments and more profiles, “SGT, I can’t go up them stairs cause it violate mi PROFILE” but the next day you see the SPC Pork-Chop at the club performing moves that are clearly violating his beloved Profile and instantly pissing you off. These are the same Soldiers that ride the system and need to be booted from service because we have standards damn it! And they need to be followed, I know Soldiers that have been on the overweight program for over 4 years and are still in the Army and please correct me if I am wrong but AR 600-9 clearly states the following:

• If you are enrolled in the program within 12 months from the date of your removal, you will be separated from the military.

• If you are enrolled in the program after 12 months but within 36 months from the date of your removal, you will be given 90 days to meet the standard. If you fail to meet the standard in the allotted 90 days, you will be separated from the military.

So how in the hell are these Soldiers still in service? Well let me tell the 2 main reasons,

1. Noncommissioned Officers not doing their job and keeping records, overweight counseling statements and all documents to separate the Fat Soldier from service.

2. Weak Commanders that don’t know the regulations and possibly feel sorry for the little porkers don’t follow thru with the separation process.

Need information on overweight counseling examples, regulations or memorandums? Check our http://www.ncosupport.com/ or http://www.mydaforms.com/

Got something to say? Then post a comment, I know this is an ongoing problem across all ranks and MOS career fields.

You can also follow this blog as I will put a post every week with relevant topics of today’s Army.

I know that at least one of your soldiers is chiseled! LOL

I agree with this! Another topic that irks me is women soldiers who have profiles for an ankle, for example, then you see them out in 4 inch heels....dancing! Lazy Lazy people who just dont want to do pt. (well, i dont do pt, but i'll admit I couldnt cut the army!)

I'm a 40 year old SPC new to the Army and not only do I meet the standard, but excel in it. I wear a xs uniform, weigh 147 at 67". I was 174 when I joined and couldnt even do more than one push up. My Company has more than their share of overweight soldiers and it makes me ill that they are still in the Army. For thoes who think they can beat the system I have news for them. They are starting to weed you out. I have a PV2 thats being discharged cause his butt is waaaay over the standard. I commend all NCOs, but if your soldier doesnt do it for himself/herself they will never pass and stay over weight. If you dont wanna try get the heck out of the Army and leave some room for thoes of us who really want to stay in.

I am a SPC about 30 years old, in the Army, only been about a year, and I come to the real Army from AIT thinking the Army is real tough on stuff like but its not the case. I realize that the rules and regulations are being broken everyday but hey its todays army, but you are right when do u see a fat Marine.... Never.

Man this problem starts at the top... Way to many of the high ranking senior nco's are over weight. so in order for them to get up and get the lower enlisted in shap they would have to do it them selves. also if they start putting people out then they will be in the hot seat to get booted themselves.
Now dont get it twisted I myself am one of those soldiers that end up on profile alot. but it not that i ride them but i do really jack my body up. when im off i can pass a pt test and tape test. And im 245lbs and 74". You dont have to be a lil twig like th other person that posted on here is.

Your 1st statment about not seeing a fat Marine, within my 15 years in the Army and serving not only at the Pentagon and other joint places, ive seen my fair share of fat Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen. Only thing about the Marines, is that they still go by the keep them outsight rule. The Army has gotten so Liberal that you cant even tell a Soldier they are a fat ass. You have to put it nice. Ofcourse IG knows me by name, cause Ive never followed that policy. We as NCO's need to take control and stop with the Liberal crap. If he is fat, make him/her work out, diet. Go out and workout with them or send them with another NCO. If he/she doesnt show they want it and cant hack it, chapter them. I hate seeing weak and immature NCOs, stop trying to be their buddy. Your not there to make friends, your there to do a job. It doesnt stop at 1700hrs. Its 24hrs/7 days a week. You can still be hard and gain the respect of the Soldier. Soft NCOs need to be chaptered out. Weak NCOs make Weak Soldiers. Learn and Follow the NCO creed to the best of your ability. Think before you act, teach the Soldier to do the same. Remember you not only do your MOS, but you still have to be a Soldier.
I am a personnel guy and I have to tell Infantry, Artillery and others how to do their jobs.
Ok, Im off my soap box. Just pisses me off when I see a NCO not doing their complete job.

nothing against the guy who wrote the post, just my thought.

In my 8 yrs in the Army, I have seen several FAT Marines. They aren't all slim or chiseled. Don't hate on other services. We are all on the same side, America's.

Yea its pretty bad with the fat soldiers. I think it has to do with personnel though, a lot of the time they dont wont to lose a lot of numbers. We have probably 6 people that would fail the h/w and even more that couldnt pass a pt test in 90 days. So thats a lot of people getting chaptered.

First of all, you're 100% correct! I see them on TV all the time. I even saw a fat Green Beret! That was a first! Secondly, I'm a retired NCO and when I joined the Army in 1980 there was a relatively high amount of fat-backs within the ranks. The number steadily increased until the end of Desert Storm when a scheduled reduction in force took place. It was long overdue and it made a significant improvement in the fitness level (removal of slobs)of the Army. Most fat-backs were carrying what we used to call pocket profiles. Anyway, maybe when we withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan there can be another long overdue RIFT of the fat-backs!

Dude, your an idiot and a sorry ass NCO. THe problem starts way at the top with all the E-7's who are fat, overweight, on profile, and non-deployable. One reason my points have been at 798 for 4 years, and I can't get promoted to E-6. It isnt just Soldier's. It's all politics, and if it isnt getting fixed at the top, it isnt goint to get fixed at the bottom. Your waisting your time. I've done three combat tours, and one dependent restricted tour overseas, never been on profile, and expert on weapons, and almost perfect PT score. . . its not the Soldier's fault, it's the sorry people way above us.

The army needs to go back to WW2 style training. but, all the hippie generals want to please the publics eye to have good relations with CNN and FOX news. SGT York said it best after returning home from WW1 when asked to go around the country to promote the army he said "this uniform is not for sale". Why does the public need to approve the military? get ride of the press in military operations, get a general who isnt a gay hippie. The generals need to realize that to fight a war that means lives will be lost, so train to stay alive second how can you fight a war weighing 250 pounds. And please, please, please get these sniffling little girls out of the service. it doesn't help matters, and it isnt fair for the men that has to pick up the slack from the females. ( yes that is a true statement) how many females do you know that actually made a difference. put them in a paper pusher positions and get the men out and get them ready to defend the UNITED STATES.

One more thing they are more worried about technology, fine and dandy but, what are you going to do once tech fails and you cant do anything about it. We have the greatest tech in the world but the worst intelligence abilities. why? we want unmanned robots to take pictures then go talk about the bad guys feelings while thew rest of the world sends men in there and get the job done.

I am a retired Army SFC. I was appalled reading the original article. I got even more upset as I read the comments. When I first went in, 1962 I saw some overweight NCO s as my career continued I saw PT change to be more effective and build fighting fitness. The majority of my career was spent in strategic communications. However that did not keep us from maintaining physical fitness. The boys ran until either they got rid of the fat or the Army got rid of them. As the article says the regs have a way to handle this problem if only the SNCO s have the intestinal fortitude to use the regs. Obviously if this is an ongoing problem and apparently it is then there are NCO s and Officers that are guilty of dereliction of duty.

Im a Marine NCO E-4. If one of my Marines ever looked like the sildier in this picture. I would make his f'ing heart pop with the amount of excercise he would be doing on the daily. I dont know why in this picture there isnt an NCO next to him watching his food intake and whatever else he throws on that plate. He wouldnt even have a choice on what he ate. Oh and he would be jogging in place with that f'ing plate. I'd make him hold that rifle above his head at all times until eventually he couldnt lift even a small round. If I see a Marine like that you best believe ill be calling him every name in the book and infront of whoever I fuckin want. Soldiers complain about feelings. My Marines would be suicidal before I ever gave an inch so they could take a Mile like the ballon in this picture. To the soldier in this picture you lucky. I'd draw an oversized Mission Map on your Back and have you walk around finging others to write there names and where you found them on it. I dont blame you though, I blame your branch of service. They failed you. To those above we banish our Marines within 6months of not keeping with standards. We are the superior fighting branch and all you above including the soldier in this picture prove us right.

Not everyone can be a Marine.

I doubt you're even going to see this, but while I agree with you on some points, the overweight program is more strict than it needs to be. I hate profile riding lazy asses as much as the next guy (it made those of us with legitimate injuries look bad), but the system is jacked. After I got blown up in Afghanistan I was on a profile for a good year or so (which I violated every chance I got just to stay off the overweight program), and it still wasn't good enough. I ended up getting kicked out for being overweight because I couldn't run more than a half mile without my leg locking up, and walking wasn't enough to lose the weight. Your guy in the photo there probably just ate too many twinkies, but again, having an NCO referring to overweight soldiers as porkchop or whatever just makes you look like an idiot and an asshat.

Wow! The joke is on you who judge and gossip about people with weight issues. I don't know how many times I saw high speed fit Soldiers excel at the PT test only to break down and cry when actually training and going through training lanes where you have to carry a wounded Soldier. The very fit Soldiers would give up or flat out say they can't carry that much weight. The "porkers" you are demonizing picked up the casualty with no problem. That said, if the "porker" is wounded and all you have is skinny Soldiers with no upper body strength then "best of luck to you." We get so caught up in appearance that we forget that these overweight people actually have skills and could be utilized in a way to enhance rather than hurt. It may hurt your image, but I would rather have a group of Soldiers who have varying strengths and weaknesses. If everyone is strong in one area and weak in another "God forbid" the enemy exploit your weakness. I'm going to eat some Ice Cream Now.
Peace.
